House Watch Program-This is a service that has been offered by the department for several years. It was designed to help insure the safety of a city resident’s home if the owner(s) or occupants(s) will be away for a period of time. Citizens can schedule the program by contacting the police department and registering their address, date of absence, name and phone number of a responsible party. The residence will be assigned a number to insure confidentiality. A police officer will check the house and premises several times a day.
Neighborhood Watch Program- The Neighborhood Watch Program is a crime prevention program that was started to reduce crime within a neighborhood and promote community involvement. This program allows for neighbors to watch out for one another while working with the police department on various issues that affect their neighborhood.
Home Security Assessments- Officers will conduct a security assessment of a business or home and then provide suggestions in how to make the building or premises more secure. The use of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, locks, doors and lighting tips will be covered during the security survey.
Crime Stoppers- Crime Stoppers was started several years ago and has been instrumental in assisting the police department in solving various crimes. Crime Stoppers offers up to $1,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for a particular crime. The caller does not have to give their name and all information is kept confidential. The Crime Stoppers hotline number is 321-6742.
K-9 Demonstrations- The police department recently purchased two new canines to provide services to the citizens of Hot Springs. The dogs, named Tex and Nero, will enhance the department’s ability to combat illegal drugs within the community and assist officers in locating hidden or fleeing suspects. The canines are also able to search a crime scene for evidence and find lost children as well as elderly persons that may have become disoriented. Along with performing their normal patrol duties, both dogs will be used in demonstrations for civic groups and schools. To schedule a k-9 demonstration you may contact the public relations office at 321-6740.
D.A.R.E. Program- The D.A.R.E. program is a ten-week curriculum that is presented to area schools. Its mission is to educate children how to recognize and resist the pressures associated with illicit drugs. The program encourages students to make thoughtful and responsible decisions.
Crime Prevention Presentations- The department’s Public Relations Office along with the Nuisance Abatement Unit has recently developed two new crime prevention programs that focus on security for the home and business. The PowerPoint presentations, which are approximately one hour in length, provide informative tips on making your home or business as secure as possible.
