As of July 21, 2009, the disposal of certain waste items by commercial operations at the city’s compost facility is allowed on an as-needed basis. This change of policy results from the recent adoption of city Resolution 7221 by the Hot Springs Board of Directors.
The disposal of brush, yard waste, leaves, tree trimmings and similar materials from all commercial haulers, landscapers, tree trimmers and similar commercial operations is now permitted on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during periods of time when the compost facility is in need of materials. The facility manager will post notification on a weekly basis at the facility entrance as to whether commercial material will be allowed. Every attempt shall be made to provide a schedule to the public regarding the ability to accept commercial materials. However, the facility manager reserves the right to change the status of material acceptance without advance notice.
A fee of $10 per load of grass clippings, brush, leaves, tree trimmings and similar materials will be collected by the facility from the commercial operator when the material is accepted. A load is defined as any amount of material up to and including 10 yards as determined by the facility manager. Private citizens can continue to bring items to the compost facility at no charge.
