WHAT IS THE INDUSTRIAL PRETREATMENT PROGRAM? WHY DO WE NEED IT?

The Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP) is a program mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The City of Hot Springs IPP is dedicated to ensuring the quality of the water discharged from Hot Springs wastewater treatment facility into Lake Catherine. In order to accomplish this, the IPP is required to address discharges from industrial and commercial users into the sanitary sewer system.

The requirements of the Industrial Pretreatment Program Are:

  1. To prevent the introduction of pollutants into the POTW ( Publicly Owned Treatment Works ) that could pass through the treatment works or be incompatible with treatment processes.
  2. To prevent the introduction of pollutants into the wastewater treatment facility and collection system that could interfere with treatment operations and/or the use or disposal of bio-solids.
  3. To improve the feasibility of recycling and reclaiming the municipal and industrial wastewater and bio-solids.
  4. To protect the general health and safety of wastewater treatment facility and collection system personnel.
  5. To enforce applicable EPA categorical and local standards.

In addition to the required elements of our program. We implement educational activities that promote environmental awareness. Some of these activities includes: Pollution Prevention presentations to local schools, community groups, and facility tours of our wastewater treatment facility
