The Historic Downtown Farmers’ Market will host “Food and Fitness at Farmers’ Market” from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 29 at the market, located in the Transportation Plaza at Orange Street. The market will open at the usual 6 a.m.
The event will include demonstrations on healthy cooking and food preparation, nutrition education, samples and recipes, and wellness and exercise demonstrations. Blood pressure and glucose readings will be offered. Those taking the glucose test should fast that morning to get an accurate reading.
Beginning and intermediate gymnastics students from Hot Springs Gymnastics/Play by Play will give a demonstration beginning at 8 a.m. At 9 a.m., natural foods chef Trinna Moore will present a juicing demonstration using market fresh fruits and vegetables. The Briar Point Bluegrass Band will entertain at 10 a.m.
The Area Agency on Aging of West Central Arkansas will provide information on their new Personal Emergency Response System Service, as well as case management, in-home care, ombudsman service and other programs. Other event participants include the Garland County Cooperative Extension Service, National Park Health Center, Hot Springs Family YMCA, Adam Kreifelds, health products distributor, and Mountain Valley Spring Water.
The market offers fresh produce, plants, bakery items, eggs, grass-fed lamb, fresh coffee, handmade crafts and other items on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings from 6 to 11 a.m. through the end of October. For more information, call 321-6806.
