Radio personalities Dick Antoine of KZNG 1340-AM and Larry Morphew of KBHS 1420-AM will serve as emcees for "A Day at the Farm," to be held from 8 until noon on Saturday, October 27 at the Historic Downtown Farmers’ Market in the Transportation Plaza at Orange Street.
A “pumpkin patch” photo backdrop with fall crops and hay bales will be provided. Amateur photographers can bring their entries for a farm photo contest involving pictures of farm produce, farm landscapes and farm animals. The event will also include live bands, featuring music from the Briar Point Bluegrass Band, Caney Creek Bluegrass Band, Family & Friends Bluegrass Band, and the Malvern Music Company Entertainers. There will be a farm animal petting zoo, some old-fashioned children’s games, plus contests, refreshments, face painting, story telling, a fall plant sale, and craft demonstrations. Most activities will be free of charge.
New at this year's event will be a display of antique farm vehicles, along with a silent auction to benefit the construction of a permanent farmers' market facility. Quality handmade crafts will be sold, along with a variety of fresh produce from local farmers. The event celebrates the last day of the 2007 farmers’ market season. For more information on “A Day at the Farm,” call Corey Pelton, 282-1418.
There will be various displays set up from organizations and businesses promoting health and wellness. Door prizes can be won by those completing one or more "laps" of the event. Area businesses, agencies, and companies are encouraged to challenge other similar type businesses or groups to meet or beat their numbers and distances. Miles can also be recorded off-site if companies want to hold programs at work. One such effort will be held during the City of Hot Springs Employee Health Fair where employees are challenged to see how far they can walk in 15 minutes around a course set up in the parking lot of the municipal building. For more information, call Parks and Recreation at 321-6871 or the Garland County Health Department at 624-3394.
