This Halloween marks the second annual Walk on the Wild Side - a wellness walking event taking place on October 31 at the Hot Springs Creek Greenway between Belding and Hollywood Avenue (adjacent to Hollywood Park) anytime between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. The total number of miles logged by all participants will be recorded and reported to Healthy Arkansas. Participants are asked to sign in at the registration table located at either end of the Greenway (Belding or Hollywood), and to sign out upon completing their walk with the distance covered.
There will be various displays set up from organizations and businesses promoting health and wellness. Door prizes can be won by those completing one or more "laps" of the event. Area businesses, agencies, and companies are encouraged to challenge other similar type businesses or groups to meet or beat their numbers and distances. Miles can also be recorded off-site if companies want to hold programs at work. One such effort will be held during the City of Hot Springs Employee Health Fair where employees are challenged to see how far they can walk in 15 minutes around a course set up in the parking lot of the municipal building. For more information, call Parks and Recreation at 321-6871 or the Garland County Health Department at 624-3394.
