AIRPORT HOSTS MONTHLY ART EXHIBIT

The public is invited to an opening reception featuring the works of Traditional Art Guild watercolorists Nita Calamaio and Florence Davis from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, February 16 in the terminal building at Hot Springs Memorial Field, 525 Airport Road.  The collection will remain on display until March 10.
Calamaio, a native of Memphis, Tennessee, graduated from Wichita State University, where she majored in French and minored in art history.  Years of experience as a docent in the Wichita Art Museum, Speed Art Museum in Louisville and Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson led her to pursue her interest in the watercolor medium.  She studied with notable artists Wyatt Waters and John Gaddes.  She became a charter member of the Gaddis Group Gallery in Jackson before moving to Hot Springs Village.
An extensive traveler of France, England, Africa and other countries, Calamaio uses watercolors to enhance her life experience and memorialize places of interest.  She has attended workshops with artists such as Tony VanHasselt, Frank Webb, Don Andrews and local artist Richard Stephens.  She enjoys painting florals, cityscapes, landscapes and still life.  She has won several awards, and currently exhibits at the Artists Workshop Gallery in downtown Hot Springs.
Florence Davis recently retired from a 40-year career in clinical social work, specializing in mental health.  Her favorite watercolor subjects also include flowers and landscapes, influenced by southwest colors and topics.  In each place she has lived, she has found opportunities to enhance her painting abilities.  She has studied with Zoltan Szabo, Pat Deadman, Tony Couch, Joseph Fettingis, Ernie Haring, Larry Weston, Jane Jones and other experienced artists, and is a member of Mid Southern Watercolorists and of Brushstrokes.
The airport is partnering with the Traditional Art Guild to offer a year-long schedule of rotating exhibits, with an opening reception on the third Saturday of each month.
For more information on the airport exhibit, contact Nina Louton, Traditional Art Guild president, 622-3100.
