AIRPORT HOSTS MONTHLY ART EXHIBIT

The public is invited to an opening reception featuring the works of Traditional Art Guild Artist Linda Shearer from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 16 in the terminal building at Hot Springs Memorial Field, 525 Airport Road. The collection will remain on display until September 14.
A native of Connecticut, Shearer was born and raised in a family of artists. Her maternal grandfather, mother, and two aunts were accomplished artists and art teachers well into their 80’s and 90’s. She moved to California in 1964, where she worked in the public school system as a teacher, counselor, project director for 25 years, and therapist in private practice for 15 years. During this time, she renewed her interest in art and studied drawing and painting at Citrus College.
In 1985, Linda visited China and discovered Chinese Brush Painting. When she returned to California, she found her first two Chinese Brush teachers, and studied with them for 10 years. It was during this time that she began visiting Chinese Brush Master Ning Yeh’s studio, studying with him for 15 years. Ning Yeh is a fourth-generation Chinese Brush Master, and is well known throughout the United States and China for his paintings, studio classes and books.
When Linda and her husband Gil retired to Hot Springs Village in 2004, she began painting full time and teaching Chinese Brush Painting at National Park Community College.
Linda’s work includes landscapes, florals and animals. She paints with both the Hsieh-I, or spontaneous style; and the Kung-Pi, or fine line style, on rice paper, using Chinese paint chips and ink.
The airport is partnering with the Traditional Art Guild to offer a year-long schedule of rotating exhibits, with an opening reception on the third Saturday of each month. For more information on the airport exhibit, contact Nina Louton, Traditional Art Guild president, 622-3100.
