Yesterday, District 4 City Director Carroll Weatherford of Hot Springs met with Mr. Yoichi Imai, president of the Hanamaki Tourism Association and CEO of the Hanamaki Hot Springs Spa Hotel in Hanamaki, Japan, Hot Springs’ sister city, to exchange ideas on increasing tourism between Japan and Hot Springs.
The meeting was part of a three-member delegation visit from Hot Springs to Hanamaki, Japan, including Weatherford and two private citizens. The Hot Springs Sister City Program hosts regular tourism exchanges with Hanamaki, Hot Springs’ Sister City.
Weatherford will hold a second meeting on Friday with a member of the Arkansas State Japan Office. The goal of the meetings is to learn more about what communications vehicles are most effective in Japan; to inquire about cooperative advertising and promotion; to seek ways to improve local hospitality to Japanese visitors; and to increase the numbers of visitors to and from Japan.
