“DAY OF PEACE” COMMUNITY OBSERVANCE ON SEPT. 18

“Peacebuilding - 101,” the community observance event in celebration of the International Day of Peace, will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 18 at the Oaklawn Visual and Performing Arts School, 301 Oaklawn Boulevard. Persons of all age, ethnic, civic, cultural and religious groups are encouraged to attend in mutual support of nonviolence. The Day of Peace is September 21.
The program will include many interactive events, including Make your own Individual Peace Flags, Make your own Peace Bracelet,
Make an Origami Peace Dove, a peace labyrinth, A - Z for Peace and REGARD for Peace. Music will include latino group 7-4 GLORY, Haven United Methodist Church Choir and the Roundtable Poets of Hot Springs.
The goal for the Day of Peace is to communicate peace throughout Garland County. To help achieve this goal, faith and civic groups are asked to pray for local and international peace at a time just prior to September 21. Everyone is invited to make September 21 a day of personal freedom from crime, violence, verbal abuse, littering, traffic rage and acts of prejudice.
Since recovery from addictions is a huge step toward peace in families and communities, R.E.G.A.R.D. encourages widespread participation in the Recovery Walk that will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 20 at Hollywood Park, 411 Hollywood Avenue on the Hot Springs Creek Greenway.
“R.E.G.A.R.D. believes that peace must begin with each individual. We hope that all citizens will participate in events in observance of the International Day of Peace, and personally resolve to dedicate themselves more fully to the cause of peace in our community, country and world,” said event organizers.
The community observance for a Day of Peace is co-sponsored by R.E.G.A.R.D. (Recognizing Everyone’s Gifts and Respecting Diversity) and the City of Hot Springs. For more information, call 520-8766.
