The public is invited to an opening reception featuring the works of local artist Hildegard Honold from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 18 in the terminal building at Hot Springs Memorial Field, 525 Airport Road. The collection will remain on display until November 10.
Honold is a native of Germany. She immigrated to the United States in 1965 with her husband and their 2 children, and became a U.S. citizen. After living in Chicago for 33 years where they owned and operated a manufacturing business, she and her husband Michael retired to Hot Springs in 1998. She discovered her love for painting in the spring of 2006, and began her art studies at National Park Community College in Hot Springs with local art instructors Thad Flenniken and Ovita Goolsby.
Her medium is pastel, and she enjoys painting portraits and landscapes of beautiful places she has visited in her extensive travels.
Honold's first juried exhibit at the Garland County Library earned her a 2nd place for her "Castle in Germany", a 18 x 24 pastel.
Hildegard is a member of the Traditional Art Guild, the Edelweiss German-American Club and the Hostess Bridge Club.
The airport is partnering with the Traditional Art Guild to offer a year-long schedule of rotating exhibits, with an opening reception on the third Saturday of each month. For information on airport exhibits, contact Nina Louton, Traditional Art Guild president, at 622-3100.
