Environmentally-minded citizens are invited to consider serving on the City of Hot Springs’ new Green Initiatives Advisory Committee, created at the Board of Directors’ regular meeting on September 8. The application deadline is noon on Friday, October 17.
The committee will gather information on current local “green” practices involving schools, private companies and other local organizations and assist in publicizing and promoting these initiatives. The committee will also review best “green” practices in other cities and offer recommendations to the Board of Directors and city manager on new initiatives that Hot Springs could adopt. Committee members will also have the opportunity to offer assistance in developing the best methods to conserve, preserve, protect, expand and improve environmental resources.
“Cities across the country are ‘going green’ in an effort to save money, conserve energy, reduce waste, improve the environment and promote new jobs,” City Manager Kent Myers noted. “Hot Springs has held the leading edge in Arkansas with many of its sustainable policies and practices. Local residents now have an ideal opportunity to contribute their ideas and actions that can benefit our community now and into the future.”
City residents who are qualified electors of the City of Hot Springs may apply for one of 5 available volunteer positions on the committee. Applications are available in the city manager’s office at City Hall, 133 Convention Boulevard; by fax on request; or in the online Document Center at www.cityhs.net. For more information, contact Margaret Parris at 321-6811.
