FARMERS’ MARKET SHIFTS LOCATION TO PARTNER WITH VETERANS’ MEMORIAL DEDICATION

The location for this Saturday’s Historic Downtown Farmers’ Market will shift to the north in order to accommodate the dedication of the new Veterans’ Memorial which follows the market’s close.

The market will operate on Saturday, July 4 in the north end of the Transportation Plaza, adjacent to the Transportation Depot, in the passenger waiting pavilion area for Hot Springs Intracity Transit.  The IT buses will load passengers on Broadway Avenue, next to the Depot and the relocated market.  Bus service will be offered throughout the day Saturday, for the convenience of those attending the farmers’ market and the Veterans’ Memorial dedication ceremony.  Market visitors are asked to park in the north parking lot and encouraged to stay for the Veterans’ Memorial dedication at 11 a.m.  Selected market vendors will remain after the dedication for the convenience of market customers.

At 8 a.m. at the Friends of the Farmers’ Market tent, local author Janis Kent Percefull will participate in a book signing of a local history work, Ouachita Springs Region:  A Curiosity of Nature, and a fictional tale woven around local historical events entitled Three Strangers Come to Call.  The Sun City Barbershop Quartet will entertain market customers with patriotic selections at 9 a.m.

Local produce in season includes blackberries, blueberries, greens, onions, peppers, okra, purple hull peas, cantaloupes, watermelons, peaches, plums, squash, beans and Arkansas tomatoes. Other offerings include grass fed beef, pork and lamb, eggs, baked goods, honey, fresh cut flowers, herbs and plants, hand-crafted jewelry, cards, soaps, and more.

The market operates on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings from 6 to 11 a.m. and Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Transportation Plaza near the intersection of Orange Street and Broadway Avenue. Free adjacent parking is provided. To inquire about vendor or volunteer opportunities, contact Bea Arline, market manager, at 321-6871.
