The U.S. Census 2010 is currently accepting applicants for hire in the Hot Springs area. The district Census Office, located in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, is responsible for counting the population in 27 of the 29 counties in District 4. This population count will be conducted during year 2010 and will require, during peak operations, several hundred to a few thousand temporary employees throughout the district.
Census employees in this area can expect pay rates of $11 per hour plus mileage, which is currently 55 cents per mile. Some supervisory positions may also be available, with a pay range from $11.50 to $14 per hour plus mileage. Area residents are encouraged to call 866-861-2010 for scheduling information concerning the census test. When a citizen passes the test, they are eligible for temporary employment.
The U.S. Constitution mandates a decennial census. This provides the population counts needed to apportion the seats in the U.S. House of Representatives among the states. In addition, the scope of the census has broadened to collect data that are the basis for allocating billions of dollars of federal and state funds, as well as the foundation of economic and social planning at every level. All residents are encouraged to participate in the census by filling out and returning the census questionnaire, which contains only 10 questions and takes an estimated 10 minutes to complete. Questionnaires are expected to arrive in local households in March. Census Day is April 1, 2010.
