Boards & Commissions

Volunteer citizens are critical to the effective operation of municipal government. The City of Hot Springs is continually seeking qualified, concerned citizens to serve on various City advisory commissions and committees.

The following boards and committees are advisory in nature and not created under any other ordinance of the City of Hot Springs or state statute regarding the creation of autonomous boards or commissions. H.S.C. §2-8-30

H.S.C. §2-8-1 et. seq. set forth the general policies and procedures for City advisory boards and committees.

Become a Board or Commission Member

Applicants must be registered voters of the City of Hot Springs, unless otherwise specified. Board and commission members are appointed by the Board of Directors and meet in the Board Chambers at City Hall, 133 Convention Boulevard, unless otherwise specified.

The City seeks applicants for three advisory committee and commission positions (7/12/23)

The City of Hot Springs is accepting applications until noon on Wednesday, August 2, for a total of three volunteer positions on various City advisory boards and committees. 

The openings include the following:

  • One opening for a city resident on the Animal Advisory Committee. This seven-member committee assists the Animal Services Department in evaluating policies and procedures, including public education efforts concerning responsible pet ownership. Members serve a term of four years. Meetings are held as needed.
  • One opening for a city resident on the Civil Service Commission. This five-member commission performs various personnel-related functions pertaining to the City's uniformed departments (Fire and Police), including administration of hiring and promotional testing. The commission was established by H.S.C. 10-3 pursuant to state law. Members serve a term of six years. Meetings are held at 4 p.m. on the third Wednesday of every month.
  • One opening on the Transportation Advisory Committee. This seven-member committee assists the Board of Directors and city staff in the establishment of policies for the city's public transit system, as well as public transportation issues of a general nature. Members serve a term of four years. Meetings are held quarterly, with additional meetings as needed.  

Applicants must be registered voters of the City of Hot Springs. Board and committee members are appointed by the Board of Directors. The Board will interview all applicants on Tuesday, August 8, following its regularly-scheduled agenda meeting at 4 p.m. in the Board Chambers at City Hall, 133 Convention Boulevard.
