Special Operation consists of the Traffic Unit, K9 Unit, School Resource Officer Program, bike patrol, and the Community Policing Response Team.
The Traffic Unit conducts traffic enforcement, investigates traffic accidents, and handles special event coordination. They also provide bicycle patrol in the downtown area and a School Resource Officer that is assigned to the Hot Springs School District.
The department's K-9 Unit utilizes five police service dogs specially trained to assist law enforcement officers in their efforts to locate narcotics, track fleeing suspects, locate lost articles, search buildings for concealed criminals or intruders, and other tasks.
The Community Policing Response Team is a four-officer policing unit that proactively patrols neighborhoods, pursues wanted persons, and engages in community outreach activities.
In addition to its normal functions Special Operations is also the home of our Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT), and the Crisis Negotiations Team.
