Uniformed Police Officer & Firefighter Benefits
Firefighter Benefits
- Annual Vacation Leave - 168 hours (7 shifts) for the first ten years; 192 hours (8 shifts) on eleventh year, and every year afterwards additional 8 hours each additional year up to a maximum of 264 hours after 20 years.
- Discretionary Leave - 24 hours (one shift) per year
- Sick Leave - 18.4 hours per biweekly period to a maximum of 1440 hours
- Retention Plan - Payments will be made annually on the first paycheck in November to full-time permanent employees and will be based on the employee's years of service reached in the prior fiscal year, based on the date of hire.
Pays an additional $500 on the employee's 5-year anniversaries of hire date.

- Insurance - Medical/Dental/Life/AD&D; dental employee coverage paid for by City; medical employee coverage is $10 per pay period; dependent coverage available and paid for by the employee
- Pension - Employee contribution of 8.5% of gross wages; City also contributes
- Uniform Allowance - $1,000 at time of hire; $1,000 per year after first six months; paid biweekly
- Educational Incentive - After completion of probationary period, firefighters are eligible to receive an additional $135 per month for an Associate’s Degree; $200 per month for a Bachelor’s Degree; and $250 per month for a Master’s Degree; paid biweekly
- Certificate Pay - Firefighters receive $100/month for EMT certification and $50/month for Haz-Mat certification; paid biweekly
- Available Options - Deferred Compensation; Supplemental Insurance
Uniformed Officer Benefits
- Annual Vacation Leave - 120 hours per year + 8 hours for each year of uninterrupted service in excess of five years, to a maximum of 200 hours per year
- Discretionary Leave - 16 hours per year
- Sick Leave - 6.1 hours per biweekly period to a maximum of 480 hours
- Retention Plan - Payments will be made annually on the first paycheck in November to full-time permanent employees and will be based on the employee's years of service reached in the prior fiscal year, based on the date of hire.
