(08-23-22) Tunneling begins at intake site

On Aug. 23, 2022, a day after the Launching & Dedication Ceremony in which the micro tunneling machine was named "Miss Elaine" in honor of District 2 Director Elaine Jones, Michel's Corp. carefully hoisted the custom-built machine into the 72-inch encasement pipe, marking the official beginning of what will be the longest 56-inch Direct Pipe® tunneling project to date in North America.

(08-17-22) Valve arrives for Aug. 23 start

Intake Site - Lake Ouachita Water Supply - Document Name - 180822_5A 72-inch stainless steel knife gate valve arrived at the Blakely Mountain intake site on Wednesday, Aug. 17, after supply chain issues caused delays in its production and delivery from Chattanooga, Tennessee.

(08-16-22) Update on the five raw water contracts

At the Aug. 16 meeting, the Board passed Resolution R-22-127, awarding a fixed-price contract for $14 million to Michels Trenchless, a division of Michels Corp., for the design and construction services in Contract 4 of the Lake Ouachita Water Supply Project. Contract 4 includes the raw water pipeline crossings for Lake Hamilton and Mazarn Creek. During negotiations, value engineering items were discussed and accepted, which saved more than $913,000 in costs.

With Contract 4 awarded, the entire 17 miles of raw water transmission main is now either under contract or construction.
