The Hot Springs Solid Waste Department’s Adopt-a-Street Program officially begins on Monday. Neighborhoods, families, school, youth and civic organizations, and other groups are welcome to participate.
The Adopt-a-Street Program involves area volunteers in helping to control litter around city streets and build community pride. Each group is recognized for their participation in the program through a sign erected by the city. Generally, an area from two blocks to one mile in length may be selected by the adopting group in cooperation with the city, with special consideration to safety. Litter pickup on both sides of the street within the adopted area is expected to be conducted from two to four times per year. The recommended adoption period is a minimum of two years, renewable at the request of the adoptee.
Youths between 11 and 18 are welcome to participate in the program as long as they are accompanied by at least one adult per five youths. The Solid Waste Department will supply safety vests, litter bags and grabbers for volunteers to use. For information and additional guidelines, call 321-6911.
