[ARCHIVED] Signup begins for new coed commercial softball league play beginning September 19 at Kimery Park

Team registration for coed commercial slow-pitch softball league play at Kimery Park will be accepted until September 12 or until the league hits capacity. The inaugural league will consist of teams comprised of employees of area businesses. Games will begin on September 22.

“This league will be a great way for businesses to offer team building outside the office, and to foster workplace health and morale,” Hot Springs Sport Recreation Manager Nathan Neighbors said. Teams will play two games per night on Thursday nights at Kimery Park, 271 Kimery Lane. Game times will be 6, 7, 8 and 9 p.m. The regular season will last six weeks, with the post-season tournament lasting two weeks. The fee is $450 per team. At least 10 players are required to play, including a maximum of six men and a minimum of four women. Teams may have one non-employee on the roster. All American Softball (AAS) rules will govern play. A coaches’ meeting will be held prior to the start of the season.

Teams can use their own equipment if they meet maximum specifications; otherwise, the city will provide game softballs and bats. An array of prizes will be awarded, including individual medals and championship hoodies to the team winning the regular season. The Commerce Cup, a traveling trophy, and a championship banner will be provided to hang in the winning team’s place of business.

All teams will be eligible to participate in the end-of-season tournament. The tournament winners will receive championship hoodies and individual medals. The tournament runner-up will also receive championship hoodies. The team with the highest composite finish will get a paid berth into the 2017 season. The season will also include bat raffles, home run derbies, hitting challenges and other events to challenge the players.
