[ARCHIVED] Safety Advisory: Majestic Hotel Lanai Tower demolition

For the benefit of Hot Springs residents, students, visitors and businesses, the City of Hot Springs has issued the following update on upcoming Majestic Hotel demolition activities that will take place over the next two weeks.

The attached map depicts the street closings that will occur during the Lanai Tower demolition, set to begin on the morning of Monday, September 19 (the perimeter is outlined in orange). Portions of Park Avenue and Cedar Street, adjacent to the tower, will be closed from Friday, September 16 until Friday, September 23.

The city has been working with Entergy and Resort Television Cable to erect temporary poles to reroute their facilities away from the Lanai Tower frontage. This utility work is expected to be completed on or about Wednesday and Thursday, September 14 and 15.

On September 16, jersey barricades will be in place and the perimeter fencing will be moved. The demolition contractor will place mulch along adjacent sidewalks to cushion them from debris and machinery. That morning, a portion of the Park Avenue roadway will be blocked along the front of the Lanai Tower. The barriers will extend to the corner of Cedar Street and approximately 370 feet up that street. Motorists and pedestrians are advised to stay completely away from the barricaded area due to demolition activities. Students, faculty and staff of the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts, as well as other motorists that tend to travel Cedar Street, are asked to use Pine Street as an alternate route.
