Today, the City of Hot Springs completed a Verification Certification regarding a Petition for Referendum on Ordinance No. 6173 filed with the city clerk’s office on January 19. The certification states:
“The above-referenced petition, filed in this office on January 19, 2017, has been reviewed for sufficiency with the following results:
“The petition, in 342 parts in total, of which 242 parts containing a total of 2,295 signatures (including illegible or voided lines) accounting for 1,440 signatures have been verified as registered voters in the City of Hot Springs, Arkansas.”
Ordinance No. 6173, adopted by the Hot Springs Board of Directors on December 20, is an ordinance annexing certain lands that are completely surrounded by the incorporated limits of the City of Hot Springs Enclave Area C (Tracts A&B).
The number of signatures required to order the referendum must be fifteen percent (15%) of the total vote cast for the office of mayor at the last preceding general election. The total number of signatures needed is 1,425, or 15% of the 9,500 votes cast in the 2014 mayoral race.
Now that the petition has been found to contain the sufficient number of signatures, the Hot Springs Board of Directors will set an election date at an upcoming meeting.
