Hot Springs Mayor Ruth Carney has submitted the attached letter of resignation effective today, March 10, 2017.
“I hope you will join me in thanking Mayor Carney for her years of service to the city,” said City Manager David Frasher. Mayor Carney has served as mayor since January 1, 2011. Her current term expires December 31, 2018.
In the near future, the Hot Springs Board of Directors will undertake an appointment process for the unexpired term. The qualifications for a member of the Board of Directors are that the individual must have been a resident of the city for at least 30 days, must be more than 21 years of age, a qualified elector of the City of Hot Springs, and reside in the jurisdiction to be represented.
According to the Arkansas Code Annotated:
A.C.A. § 14-47-113. Director vacancy.
Whenever a vacancy shall occur by any reason in the office of a director, the board of directors shall elect a person by majority vote to fill the vacancy and serve for the unexpired term thereof.
Until an appointment is made, District Three Director and Assistant Mayor Becca Clark will preside over the board’s regular meetings.
