[ARCHIVED] City holiday closings / fireworks safety reminder

All city offices, except public safety and the airport, will be closed on Monday, September 4 in observance of Labor Day. Monday through Friday’s residential sanitation collection and Earth Angel recycling routes will run one day later than the normal schedule. Commercial collection, roll off and downtown routes will take place as scheduled on Monday. All other Solid Waste services will be suspended, as will Hot Springs Intracity Transit bus and paratransit routes. The city compost facility will also be closed.

The Hot Springs Fire Marshal reminds everyone that the sale and use of fireworks within the corporate limits of Hot Springs is prohibited except as may be permitted pursuant to the Arkansas Fire Prevention Code, 2012 edition, Chapter 56. City residents are encouraged to leave the fireworks to the experts.

The annual free Labor Day fireworks display over Lake Hamilton, sponsored by Visit Hot Springs, will be held Sunday, September 3, at dark. Fireworks will be shot from the middle of Lake Hamilton from barges located on the west side of Highway 7 at the first Highway 7 bridge opposite the Clarion Hotel. The fireworks display will be synchronized with appropriate music by radio station US97 (97.5 FM). Those watching the display from the water are urged to keep a safe distance from the launching area and to keep watch for fellow boaters.

The rain date will be Monday evening, September 4, at the same place and time.
