At Monday’s Hot Springs Board of Directors meeting, Mayor Pat McCabe presented Descendant of DeSoto plaques to two local residents who recently garnered national biking championships, with several members of the local biking community attending in support.
Robert Orr, 62, won the Men’s Master 60-64 at the 2018 USA Cycling Marathon Mountain Bike National Championships in May. Cayden Parker, 14, took the championship titles in both the Cross Country Men Junior 13-14 and the Short Track Cross Country Men’s 11-14 age division at the 2018 USA Cycling Mountain Bike Nationals in Snowshoe, West Virginia in July.
Mayor McCabe congratulated both biking champions, asking them to continue as ambassadors for Hot Springs’ world-class biking trails, calling mountain biking the area’s next big industry. “People can leave their office and get on world-class trails every day of the week and ride something different,” McCabe said.
