Applications are now being accepted for students desiring to participate in the 2019 student delegation that will travel to Hanamaki, Japan, Hot Springs’ sister city, for one week in early June. Up to 10 students will visit Hanamaki schools and cultural landmarks, and homestay with area families. The students will also participate in Sister City Program activities throughout the year following their return.
“This is a life changing opportunity for our area students, it allows them to experience life as Japanese teenagers do, staying with a host family, attending Hanamaki schools and other cultural opportunities,” said Mary Zunick, Executive Director of the Hot Springs Sister City Program.
Applicants must be Garland County residents in grades 8-11 at any Garland County school or homeschool. Applications must be postmarked by December 21. Applications are available on the Sister City Program page under the Our Community tab at www.cityhs.net. Only complete applications will be considered and scholarships are limited. For information, contact Sister City Program Executive Director Mary Zunick at 501-545-6960.
