[ARCHIVED] Haunted Houses require permits

Following the discovery of two unauthorized haunted houses operating within the City of Hot Springs, the Hot Springs Fire Department would like to remind the public that proper permits are required to run a haunted house.

Haunted houses operating without a permit will be required to cease operations until the proper authorization is obtained. All requests for permits should be submitted with the $30 permit fee to the Permit/Inspection Division at Planning & Development, 133 Convention Blvd.

Among the permit requirements required prior to installation are the following: written description of the operations of the haunted house; plan drawings of the installation location and layout, including floor plan with dimensions, location of exits and fire extinguishers; listing of all materials to be used and the fire-rated classification of each (only Class A is permitted); and locations of mirror walls or other mechanisms that could confuse occupants.

For questions, the full list of guidelines or any other permit information, contact the Hot Springs Fire Department at 321-6971 or the Chief Building Official at 321-6845.
