HOT SPRINGS -- The City of Hot Springs is now accepting applications for 25 positions on advisory boards and commissions. All applicants must be registered voters of the city. • Five openings for city residents on the Airport Advisory Committee. This committee assists the airport staff and city manager in the development and review of airport operating policies and procedures. Meetings are held at the airport on the third Thursday of the month at 4 p.m.
• One opening for city residents on the Animal Control Advisory Committee. This committee assists the Animal Services Department in evaluating policies and procedures, including public education efforts concerning responsible pet ownership. Meetings are held as needed at the John Seales Animal Services Center.
• Six openings for city residents on the Hot Springs/ Garland County Beautification Commission. The commission was jointly created by the city and county governing bodies to assist in various green initiatives and beautification efforts, and meets the third Thursday of the month.
• One opening for city residents on the Board of Adjustments and Appeals (BAA) /Board of Zoning Adjustment (BZA). The dual committee hears appeals of enforcement and application of development codes, and meets the fourth Monday of every month at 4 p.m. in the City Hall Board Chambers.
• One opening for city residents on the Civil Service Commission. The commission performs various personnel-related functions related to the city's uniformed departments (fire and police), including the administration of hiring and promotional testing. The Commission consists of five members, and is established by H.S.C. 10-3 pursuant to state law.
• One opening for city residents on the Community Development Advisory Committee. Residents must be from Board District 2 to be eligible to serve. The committee evaluates and establishes operating policies and procedures for the Community Development Block Grant Entitlement Program, and meets the first Thursday of the month at 1 p.m.
• One opening for city residents on the Historic District Commission. The commission oversees historic district rules and regulations. Applicant must be an owner of real property, officer or stockholder of the owner of real property, business owner, or officer or stockholder of businesses within the Pleasant Street Historic District.
• One opening for city residents on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. This committee provides guidance and oversight of the city’s parks and recreation programming, planning and policy development. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at 5 p.m. in the Parks Conference Room.
• Two Openings for city residents on the Planning Commission. The commission reviews all land development proposals within the city and subdivisions outside the corporate limits to insure compliance with the zoning code. The commission meets the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. in the City Hall Board Chambers.
• Two openings for city residents on the Transportation Advisory Committee. This committee assists the board of directors and city staff in the establishment of policies for the city’s public transit system and public transportation issues of a general nature. Meetings are held as needed at the Transportation Depot.
• Two openings for city residents on the Urban Forestry Committee. This committee promotes, protects, and enhances the beauty, environmental benefits and general welfare of the Hot Springs urban forest. Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 5:30 p.m. in the Parks Conference Room at the City Hall Annex.
