Last night (Monday night), Hot Springs Fire Department personnel arrived on scene at 8:58 p.m. to an 8:55 p.m. alarm for a fire underway at the Prospect Avenue Apartments, 403 Prospect Avenue. A total of six fire apparatus and 29 HSFD personnel were on the scene. There were no related injuries.
The building sustained heavy smoke, water and fire damage after the fire, which apparently began in the laundry room area, extended upwards to a couple of apartments through the walls of the three-story structure. Of the nine apartments in the building, 12 occupants were displaced; nine were provided accommodations by the Red Cross and three made other arrangements. Most fire personnel departed at 2 a.m., with a fire truck stationed on scene throughout the night. The cause of the fire has not officially been determined.
