A boil order is now in effect for approximately 20 homes on Agate Street off of Cedarglades Road. The order was issued as a precautionary measure following the partial loss of water system pressure due to a 16” main line break which occurred at approximately 2 a.m. this morning. A repair crew is onsite, and repairs are expected to be completed by approximately 11 a.m. today. Cedarglades Road, from Agate to Glade Street, is currently closed, and motorists must detour during the repair period.
The affected area includes Agate to Cedar Street, from Cedarglades to Whittington Avenue, and a portion of Pine Street. Residents in the affected area are advised that the water may be unsafe for human consumption due to the possibility that contaminated water may have entered the distribution system. Water used for drinking or food preparation must be boiled briskly for one minute prior to use. All ice cubes should be discarded and only boiled water used for making ice.
The boil order will be lifted by the Department of Health when one set of bacteriological samples indicate that the water is free of bacterial contamination and an adequate disinfectant level is established throughout the distribution system. For information, call 623-7483.
