[ARCHIVED] CMSHS students partner with Wal-Mart Corporation and Stormwater Division by installing storm drain m

Cutter Morning Star High School students Dusteen Sieck, 11th grade and Savanna Palmer, 10th grade install a storm drain marker at the Central Avenue Wal-Mart while store manager Ted Parks and City of Hot Springs Stormwater Coordinator Jessica Johnson consult map of the store’s storm drain inlets.

The markers were installed as part of a partnership between Cutter Morning Star High School volunteers, the Central Avenue and Albert Pike Wal-Mart stores, Hot Springs Sam’s Club and the Stormwater Division. The markers bear the inscription, “No Dumping – Drains to Lake.”

The storm drain marking efforts underscore the fact that stormwater, or rainwater, runoff is not filtered or treated prior to entering the nearest stream or lake. Therefore, any debris or potential pollutants left outside uncovered or on the ground could be washed away during a rain event and end up in area streams, creeks or lakes. The markers will serve to educate store patrons to be mindful of what goes into a storm drain. For information, contact Johnson at 321-6743.
