The public is invited to attend an open house public meeting, which will be held by the Tri-Lakes Metropolitan Planning Organization (TL-MPO) in an effort to update the Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) through the year 2040. The MTP is a 25-year plan and the basic framework for all the MPO’s transportation planning. The plan will identify future transportation needs in the Hot Springs urbanized area and guide the expenditure of federal, state, and local funds that become available for these projects. The current MTP was approved in September 2010 and programs approximately $243 million dollars’ worth of transportation improvements through the life of the plan.

The open house will provide information about the work and analysis completed to date on the MTP, including results of the visioning workshop meetings previously conducted in early 2015. Participants will be able to explore exhibits that explain the transportation planning process, and highlight local transportation system, land use, and socio-demographic characteristics. Meeting facilitators will be on hand to answer questions, and participants will be able to provide input on the planning process to date.
Transportation planning is important to everyone. As the region continues to grow, TL-MPO needs to ensure that the transportation system within the MPO area remains safe and efficient. For this reason, TL-MPO recognizes that continued collaboration with the public is important to identify where future transportation needs may occur, and to ensure that limited tax dollars are used for the community’s benefit.
