[ARCHIVED] Public invited to participate in Green Infrastructure Plan webinar

The public is encouraged to attend a no-cost webinar, “Rethinking Our Land: Growing Sustainable and Resilient Communities,” which will be held from 12:15 p.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 2. The webinar, held by the Green Infrastructure Center (GIC) of Charlottesville, VA, will describe GIC's six-step field tested process to demonstrate how community needs for clean air, clean water and healthy local food can be met by a green-infrastructure-based strategy that also furthers economic vitality.

“The City of Hot Springs is fortunate to be surrounded by the natural beauty of clean lakes, vast acres of forests and, of course, its namesake thermal springs,” said Parks & Trails Director Jean Wallace. “In an effort to maintain these physical gifts, the city is implementing a Green Infrastructure Plan in partnership with GIC.”

Green infrastructure is defined as an interconnected network of waterways, wetlands, woodlands, wildlife habitats and other natural areas of countywide significance. The city’s Green Infrastructure Plan will describe goals, objectives and policies for implementation. The plan will provide maps showing the identified elements of the green infrastructure including regulated areas, evaluation areas, and gap areas.

The webinar is an opportunity for local government staff, residents and businesses to learn about the long-term benefits of integrating green infrastructure into ongoing and future planning efforts to grow Hot Springs. To register, click on the Green Infrastructure Webinar slide located at the bottom right corner of the cityhs.net home page.
