[ARCHIVED] PACA schedules Sunday benefit events

The Park Avenue Community Association (PACA) has scheduled two fund raising events for Sunday, November 8. The Annual Walking Tour of Historic Homes is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., followed by a potluck dinner at 4 p.m.

Registration for the historic homes begins at 1 p.m. at the Park Haven Community Gardens, 655 Park Avenue. For a $10 donation, participants will take an exclusive guided tour of some of the beautifully restored, historic homes on Park Avenue. “Space is limited for this educational event, featuring the colorful past and exciting future of the Park Avenue area,” said association secretary Janice Jones. Funds from the annual walk are used for PACA activities such as festivals, National Night Out events and community gardens. Contact Jones, 627-6255, for information.

The “Next Level Friends Potluck for a Park” will take place at Low Key Arts, 118 Arbor Street. Attendees are asked to bring a dish, dessert, or ten dollar donation at the door. The kickoff fundraiser for the David F. Watkins Memorial Tunnel Park includes musical entertainment by local singer/songwriter Amy Jo Savannah and torch singer Sylvia Stems. The new park, to be constructed at 811 Park Avenue, is a public/private partnership named after late city manager David F. Watkins. Watkins had a vision for the site, formerly occupied by a dilapidated motel, that would include a community park with stormwater mitigation features. Contact PACA Vice-President Angie Gammill-Ezekiel, 655-1255, for information.
