A dedication ceremony for the new City of Hot Springs parklet – Henry Glover Place – at the site of the “Black Broadway” mural, 348 Malvern Avenue, will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021.
This date commemorates the centennial of Glover’s birthdate. The Hot Springs Area Cultural Alliance requested the parklet be named after Glover as a part of the celebration of his birth. The first Glover Award was given to the winner of the songwriting competition at the 2021 Arts & The Park festival, and Glover was also honored with induction to the Arkansas Walk of Fame in downtown Hot Springs.
Glover wrote and produced music for blues, jazz, R&B, early rock and roll, pop and country artists, and became one of the first truly successful African American music executives.
The parklet features a sidewalk, sodded area, a bench and an ornamental iron treble clef and trumpet. Future plans include additional landscaping and benches.
