The City of Hot Springs and Scenic Hill Solar will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. on June 23, 2021, at the Southwest Wastewater Treatment Plant, 365 Winkler Road, to celebrate completion of the first Scenic Hill Solar power plant to supply electricity for the City of Hot Springs. The original solar plant ribbon-cutting ceremony that was scheduled for May 18 was postponed due to inclement weather. The City anticipates saving more than $30 million on electricity costs over the next 30 years after the Board of Directors unanimously approved a 28-year Energy Services Agreement (ESA) between Scenic Hill Solar and the City at their meeting on Sept. 17, 2019. This and upcoming power plants are to be built, owned and operated by Scenic Hill Solar on land leased from the City to provide solar electricity for all City operations. Along with the savings on electricity costs, construction of the power plants will add almost $20 million of economic development for Hot Springs.
